I posted this video on my facebook page yesterday but I am keen to get it out there to as many people as possible as it has some very pertinent information about farming and agriculture in Australia.

Our farmers are farming for the future; to continue to be sustainable they have had to become more productive and more efficient and produce more with less. There is such limited knowledge and information out there about how our farmers are doing this and how the majority of them are very conscious of the use of the natural resources that we use to produce the food and fibre.
Given that we are Farming for the Future why do so many governments think it is OK to mine some of the most productive land in this country. I am not denying that mining brings this country a large amount of wealth but with out farmers there will be no food.
On a trip to a capital city (before the floods earlier this year) we were asked what we did for a living and when we mention we were irrigators the look on the people faces was one of shock and horror. There comment was 'you guys use all the water'. I bit my tongue and felt like saying that the lack of water has nothing at all to do with our usage of it, it is fact to do with the on going drought.
In hindsight I should have pointed out that farmers are some of the most efficient users of their resources.

Hello there....
Hello and welcome!!! and thank you for stopping by my blog. This blog has been developing in my head for sometime and I have finally got around to getting it off the ground. I have been putting this off for a while, I think just because I have know where to begin but I have just bitten the bullet and started!
Still not sure where to start but maybe just start with a little about myself and my little family.
I have started this blog as a platform also to write about some things that I feel very passionate about and have an interest in. One of those things is agriculture in Australia and it is not particularly well promoted outside of our own industries and there is a lot of misconceptions out there about agriculture. The other reason being recently I read that there is a limited presence of Australian agriculture in the social media and social networking worlds and I would like to do my little bit to change that.
Having said all that, I will be blogging about other things as well! Like cooking/food as that is one of my favourite things!
Today was a good day on the farm, a wet rainy day, so 'The Cotton Grower' was around the house for most of the day, even if it was spent looking at the radar for most of the day.
A lovely wet day. Oh, how I love this weather, it is a welcome break at this time of the year when we have been getting temperatures in excess of 35 degrees!
Stay tuned for the next instalment from The Cotton Farmers Wife..........
